Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation

The physical medicine and rehabilitation (PMR) department focuses on relieving pain and functional loss without surgery. At the first visit the physiatrist assesses the patient's mobility, pain level and daily-life goals and writes a plan.

Sessions combine electrotherapy, ultrasound, manual therapy, exercise and hydrotherapy. A rehabilitation programme started early after surgery noticeably shortens recovery after joint replacement and ligament operations.

A spine school, an osteoporosis exercise group and family training after stroke are the department's regular group programmes.
